We believe that showing horses is fun, but shouldn't be filled with stress and high emotions. So, you will find our shows very low key with an emphasis on fun and accomplishments rather than winning.
Because we live in Central Virginia, there a a number of shows fairly close to home, for all levels from lead line to jumpers. So, be sure to ask if you or your children want to participate in a show, let Tammy know and she will pick out a show, a horse, and give you support on what to expect.
We take care of tack and hauling the horse. There is no lesson fee, but there is a show fee of $40 a day, and you will also have entry fees which go to the show. Local entry fees run $8-$15 a class, depending on the show.
We have plenty of horses and ponies to show in everything from lead line and short stirrup to Novice jumpers.
When the weather gets better, we attend hunter shows to give our new hunters experience over fences before we put students on them, and jumper shows, which keep Tammy happy!! Hunters have a course that is usually 8 fences and the pattern is a general sweeping figure. Horses are judged on how well the look over fences, the correct lead, and attitude. Jumpers show over a course that is generally 12-14 fences, laid out like pick up sticks. It doesn't matter WHAT a horse looks like going around the course, what matters is if the fences stay up and then who has the fastest time~!
We will post upcoming shows we will attend on the website and you are welcome to attend as a spectator and bring your whole family. We also make two or three trips to Commonwealth Park during the Grand Prix season to watch the international jumpers compete. It's lots of fun and we will keep a schedule posted. Please feel free to bring a picnic (or not) and join us. There is no fee or admission fee for attending shows.
